"The Cut" Retaining Wall Structure, Los Angeles

Client: City of Los Angeles
Size: 700 ft
Project Type: Public
Status: In Progress (Phase 1)

This project, known as "The Cut", is a section of Sunset Blvd. that passes through the SilverLake neighborhood. The Cut represents a breach of a hillside created in the late 1800's by a local railroad company in an effort to connect downtown Los Angeles to a zoo in Griffith Park. The exposed slope resulting from this action has been degrading slowly for over 100 years and now threatens both homeowners and motorists. In an effort to stabilize this condition the City has embarked on a major infrastructure project. Our design for the surface of the retaining wall structure represents Phase 1 of a multiphase project.
